2006 Samba Theme Song (Portuguese)

Nosso Brasil É Com “S”

SambaLá 2010

da Renni Flores

Terra boa, terra boa que se plantando dá
Um solo forte onde o petróleo jorra
Nação tão jovem, de rica fáuna e poderosa flora

O verde da bandeira
Lá representa a floresta
Importante peça no aquecimento global
O amarelo, o ouro, nosso tesouro

Carnaval faz parte
Da história da alegria
Esse povo que com graça
Sem destinção de raças
Faz rítmo e harmonia

Traz a mulher brasileira
Seu pérfil e gingado
Manda trazer do nordeste

tão poucos versos, tanta coisa pra contar
E em Long Beach tem o SambaLá

É um, é dois, é três, é mil
Solo és mãe gentil
Pátria amada Brasil

Translation

Our Brazil is with an “S”

SambaLá 2010

by Renni Flores

Good soil, good soil where everything planted yields
Strong soil where oil gushes
Nation so young, rich with fauna and powerful flora

The green of our flag
That represents our forest
Important part in global warming
Yellow, our gold, our treasure
That makes the miner rejoice

Music springs from poverty
The richness of the slums is in the theme of samba
There are tricksters in the Senate
And the trickster laureate who is all the rage
Always want "their" samba in first place

Soccer is the art that made Brazil
Penta-champion, Penta-champion

Guarana, caipirinha, beer and black beans
And in the South there is chimarrão

Carnival is also part
From its history, it gives happiness
This people who with grace
Without distinction in race
Make rhythm and harmony

Bring forth the Brazilian woman
Your profile and grace
Ask them to bring them from the Northeast
Embroidery of the woman lace-maker

Time can even pass us by yet
Brazilians do not forget (Portuguese will not change)
Brazil with "Z" is for gringos
Brazil with "S" is the Brazil we deserve (know)

We have xaxado, axé, capoeira, candomblé
So few verses, so much to tell
And in Long Beach we have SambaLá

It's one, it's two, it's three, it's a thousand
Soil is our gentle mother
Our loved fatherland Brazil

Samba Theme Description

2010 Theme Description

By David de Hilster, Theme by Rodney de Assis and Doris de Hilster

Brazil is roaring into the 21st century with new
additions to its already world-wide reputation of a land
of enchantment.

Brazilian music of the 20th century was samba and
bossa-nova. The new Brazil mixes samba with music
from other countries. The result is samba-funk and
samba-reggae with this music finding its way into
traditional samba beat of the Sambadrome.

In the span of two years, Brazil will host the two largest
sporting events on the planet: the world cup, and the
Olympics. The world chose Brazil not because of the
fantasy, but because of Brazil's modernity and ability to
host world-wide events. Brazil of course is known as
the best in the world for soccer but it's other athletes
excel world-wide complete on the world stage in
basketball, gymnastics, and swimming.

But will the new Brazil loose it's "fantasy" in the hearts
of the world-citizen? Will the modern themes take away
all that is special about Brazil? The answering is a
resounding "NO!" Why? Because of the Brazilian
heart.

Today in Brazil it is very popular to make the sign of a
heart with two hands. This gesture is very uniquely
Brazilian. Brazilians pass this love on from person to
person with a gesture that is universal yet uniquely
theirs.

Brazil is an open heart, much love, and requires
participation. Brazilians make everyone feel at home
and require all who come in contact with them and their
country to dance to the dance of life. It doesn't matter if
you are good at the dance, just that you participate with
your heart.

Brazil is the fantasy of all world citizens. Everyone who
loves the diversity of the earth and its people, love
Brazil and want to travel there someday. This will never
change.

Come know the new, modern, Brazil.
Our Brazil.
The world's Brazil.
